Vision Insurance
The knowledgeable staff at idoc Optical is experienced in working with vision insurance providers. We will work directly with you and your vision insurer to submit claims regarding your vision care. We strive to ensure that you understand your insurance coverage and will answer any questions you may have regarding your benefits. Many current vision plans are designed to cover many of the basic vision-related costs, but not all costs associated with eye care. Most plans often require a co-payment for an office appointment as well as additional costs that are covered by the insured patient.
Please note that the primary vision insurances accepted in our office are Davis Vision, EyeMed, and VSP. We are in-network with most groups in these vision plans, but if you are unsure, please call ahead to confirm. Health insurance plans that we are in network with include Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and Medicare for medical visits, but please call ahead to check with us if we are in network with their vision plans. Typically, your healthcare insurance provider contracts the major vision insurance companies accordingly:

Aetna: EyeMed (in-network) OR Aetna Vision [*Direct*] (in-network)
BlueCross BlueShield (and subsidiaries i.e. FEP Blue): Davis Vision (in-network) OR EyeMed (in-network) OR VSP (in-network) OR BCBS Vision [*Direct*] (in-network)
Cigna: EyeMed (in-network) OR VSP (in-network) OR Cigna Vision [*Direct*] (in-network)
United Healthcare: Spectera (out-of-network) OR UHC Vision [*Direct*] (in-network)

*Direct* notates that some healthcare plans do not contract through the major vision insurance providers and directly provide vision benefits. Typically in this case, if we are in network with your health insurance provider, you will be eligible for services at our facility. Please check to ensure that your health insurance provider provides direct vision coverage. They often do not.

Additionally, there are other plans that we are in-network with which may not be included in the list above. For example, Guardian typically contracts through VSP (in-network). There are many other plans that are structured similarly. Please contact us to verify coverage. You may also verify coverage by contacting your insurance provider directly.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Many employers are offering Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options to employees. Sometimes these are referred to as cafeteria plans and are elective, supplemental insurance savings plans. These plans are designed to let you save money in an account, pre-tax, to pay for additional medical expenses such as eye exams, glasses, contacts, and often laser vision surgery. Check with the benefits administrator at your work to see if you are eligible for this program. FSAs can typically be used in conjunction with any vision insurance plan to offset any out-of-pocket costs on your behalf.
Other Payment Options
Our optometry staff in Washington, DC understands that cost is a concern when evaluating vision care providers. We do not want cost to be an obstacle to maintaining proper eye health and good vision. We accept various forms of payment and are able to discuss your options with you prior to any examination. At idoc Optical, we also accept cash, check, and major credit cards.
